Walking Contractors reconcile immigration

Given growing public criticism of activists against illegal immigration, Colorado’s construction work began to illuminate their reservations vis-à-vis the issue of public debate.

The parties are a growing chorus of business leaders - including hotels, restaurants and agriculture - say they try to hire only legal but a lack of system for the simple confirmation of a member of Staff legal status.

A company, the best option is the beleaguered Basic pilot program that uses Social Security numbers, workers eligibility. But federal authorities acknowledge that Basic Pilot can not display a reliable if someone abused the identity of a citizen.

Accordingly, the State contractor say they are left with a difficult choice: Use the pilot and the risk Basic recruitment of workers not documented or aggressive profile of future employees, which could lead, as law sanctions.

“Employers are at the foot of the gondola that anti-discrimination directives and laws on immigration,” said Tony Milo, executive director of the Colorado Contractors Association.

“We certainly feel Squeeze. We have this complex network of state and federal regimes that are sometimes at odds with each other. ”

Milo and the other partners of Colorado spoke on national television a report on “Dateline NBC” in December shows that the undocumented workers were occupied by the Roaring Fork Valley contractor Mark Gould.

Gould, Basic, uses pilot, said “Date Line” on the challenges, find a balance between the need to verify the citizenship of workers, with its need for manual work.

His statements, however, did not meet the state Senator David Schultheis, R-Colorado Springs, Colorado, one of the main advocates strict laws on immigration.

Schultheis, Gould explains, as employers can do more for hiring illegal immigrants. He told The Denver Post, he wants to potential employers in the personal profile on the basis of their ability to speak English.

“If the person can not speak English, in many cases, they can start from the premise that the person is fresh from the border,” said Schultheis. “You must be a little risk, of course.”

What Schultheis, however, is illegal, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“If an accent reminded immigration status is a matter of opinion, but it has nothing to be done for workers’ rights in America,” said James Ryan, spokesman for the EEOC. “It is incorrect to make any kind of discrimination suppose, because a person has an accent or a certain national origin.”

Gould said Schultheis’ point of view is another example for printing and dilemma that contractors face. “People do not realize that if you have before you a collaborator, you’ll stop asking questions if they are dark-skinned,” he said. “We are in a very strict, so that we do not discrimination “.
