Reducing accidents speed limit down

The figures recently by the Colorado State Patrol indicate that the decline night of the maximum speed allowed in the Colorado Highway 13 has produced results that the criminal prosecution authorities.Since May 2 Patrol troopers by the State have a speed of 55 km / h limit of 13 Colo south between Craig and Meeker. The objective of reducing the speed limit at night has been reducing the number of deer against car accidents on the stretch of highway often called “Flipper alley.”

The test area is in the Garfield County Line on the border with Wyoming. The maximum speed is 65 km / h during the day.

“We saw a big decline from October of last year and October this year,” State Patrol Capt. council Williams said.

Records show 147 animals accidents in October 2004, compared to 114 such accidents in October 2005 in Colorado. On this journey of 13 Colo, there were 35 accidents in October 2004 and 20 in October 2005. State Patrol troopers on this attribute the lower speed limit.

“We had a little growl pilots, when it entered into force,” said Williams. “But it was also misconceptions about the fact that this is a 24 hours should not exceed” .

In the Rio Blanco County, the number of animals against road accidents decreased by 14 percent, despite increased traffic, “said Williams. Gasexploration oil and pipeline and transportation projects are probably the reason for increased traffic.

“I think (the Colorado section of art - ment of Transportation) is seeking one year, statistics, before any decision,” said Williams. “We implementation (speed limit) are quite difficult between us and the sheriff of Rio Blanco.”

Although Moffat County Sheriff’s deputies regularly patrol Colo 13, Patrol, the state is responsible for examining all road accidents.

“Our young people have a place to sit and radar, and for most of the population obeys the speed limit,” said Moffat County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Holford. “You have a handful of people, are the speed limit 65 km / h, they simply do not know.”

In total, Holford believes public opinion on the number of animals on the road and the speed has been reduced enough for most drivers know the rules.

“Everybody knows what the speed limit,” he said. “With some people, it plays no role, what the speed limit, they push the speed they want.”

He also found that most people in North West Colorado drive more slowly at night what, because all animals near the roadway.

The night of speed limits on 110 miles of Colo. 13, in total, including Moffat County.
