Missing Children’s Father Appears In Court
The father of two missing New Hampshire children appeared in a California courtroom Monday accused of interfering with child custody and fugitive from justice charges.
NewsCenter 5’s Jack Harper reported Sarah Gehring, 14, and Philip Gehring, 11, were last seen in tears leaving a fireworks display with their father, Manuel Gehring, in Concord on July 4.
Gehring, 44, was arrested Thursday in Gilroy, Calif. Officials did not disclose what evidence that they have that makes them believe it is a double murder. Officials again asked for the public’s help locating the
children’s bodies.
“I stand here and I wish I could tell you that we have found Sarah and Philip, but we have not,” New Hampshire Attorney General Peter Heed said.
“We’ve obviously conducted searches here in Concord. We have searched some general and specific areas in the Midwest,” Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Strelzin said.
The children were last seen with their father leaving the fireworks display at Memorial Field. Witneses said that they saw Sarah arguing with her father as they left the show.
“Specifically, the area that we are hoping to hear from are people that may have witnesses them walking from the Memorial Field area northerly on South Fruit Street and up to Pleasant Street,” Concord Police Department Chief Jerry Madden said.
Officials tracked Gehring to California following a series of credit card purchases that may have included the purchase of a shovel.
