Colorado, seeking ways for health insurance funded by the programme
If Susan Molina son came with the flu, they have the best she could drugstore. And thus they led at home with his bag full of pain and rubbing his chest and cough medicine, she began to cry.
“I felt ashamed that I am not only my son to the doctor and then right,” she says. “It is sad that we, as parents, unless they have some tough decisions - if the payment of a bill or buy food or take our children to the doctor. I felt like a failure. ”
Until a year ago, Molina, two children were by Child Health Plan (CHP +), the version of a federal state health insurance for working families.
But a new job has pushed a little more of their income ceiling for eligibility for the state, and they had not insured employers.
Molina, the children might have been able to resume CHP + on a bill, the biggest debate on what role government should play in the health insurance available to low-income Working Families.
Last month, Congress agreed to spend $ 35 billion over five years to fund the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (Schip), combined heat and electricity + parent company. But President Bush’s veto against the bill, setting up an override vote this week.
“Refoulement” a concern
The men of the background Schip say it’s a costly program that works, a reduction in the number of uninsured children by more than 25 per cent in the last 10 years and at less cost Preventive Deployment care for problems that otherwise would mean costly trips to emergencies.
But Bush and other critics say the law is a step toward “verbündend” health care and opened the door to many families, a few drops of which were private insurance for cheaper under the programme coverage, a phenomenon known as “remove”.
Colorado has enough heat and electricity + reserves for the program for at least a year, maybe longer if a compromise is not reached.
Supporters of combined heat and electricity + pointed out that the attitude who can afford other options is not a problem in Colorado because of stricter eligibility standards. The urgent problem, they say, is how to register eligible, but thousands of children uninsured - something that expanding Schip have helped make possible.
“Many people think they are not poor enough or too much money, because both parents work,” said Joanne Lindsay of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing. “Some of them is more and more people on health insurance. We try to educate humans aufsuchende by our efforts. ”
Only 54000 of 97000 children are eligible for funding from Colorado by force of heat and electricity +, with 1342 pregnant women.
During 2004, approximately 16 per cent of 700000 children under 19 years living in the seven-county Denver Metro area were not insured, most often because their families were unable to provide the full cost of private care, Kids Health Care Access, a study on four Colorado non-profit foundations.
The bill would have extended Schip health insurance for not less than 60000 families, as Molina Colorado deserve much to qualify for combined heat and power +, but not enough to pay for private insurance, said Lorez My Hold, Senior Programme Officer Colorado Health Foundation.
“The costs of health insurance has risen faster than wages and, as the employer are delighted that under control, they push the cost of staff - and they can not provide,” she says.
