Bush leads Chao for work, as U.S. Trade Rep Zoellick
Thank you all for your presence. Good morning. Today, I am happy, two Americans, among the last candidates of my cabinet.
The USA trade representative, I chose Robert Zoellick. I have known Bob for many years. He is an experienced officer, a veteran diplomat, a chief negotiator and a man of great talent and energy. Mr. Zoellick is that in our country soon Trade negotiators and play a key adviser to the president for trade policy.
Given that I have often mentioned, the economic success must also be a strategy for themselves, work for trade policy. We open new markets for products developed and Made in America. This will be one of our main objectives. We will ensure that trade agreements are implemented and that American farmers and entrepreneurs and workers are treated fairly.
Bob and I recognize that we are now in a globalized economy and trade will not only be a good home economy, trade means that a good economy with our trading partners.
Bob and I also understand the importance of a good, active trade policy in our own hemisphere. As I said earlier, our neighbours to the south and north of us are not afterthoughts of foreign policy or economic policy, they are an integral part to ensure that our hemisphere and our world is strong and Pacific.
How USTR, Mr. Zoellick, soon Ambassador Zoellick, is a full partner in trade and the entire team, a member of my Cabinet.
It is a joy to welcome these talented men in the public service and to my hotel.
I also welcome Elaine Chao, nominated for the Secretary of Labor.
In the campaign, presented the priorities I’m for working Americans. I was talking about a strong and productive workforce formed, to which all participants. This means, job training for the survival of our new economy. This means that people must leave the welfare jobs, qualified for the opportunities of the moment. This means that disability should not be a bar on every job.
These are the priorities of the Division of labour market policies and the new secretary.
She brings to this post the qualities for which she is known and admired - strong executive talent, great compassion and an obligation to help improve human life.
Elaine Chao is the opinion of depth in the American dream because she has lived. She came to America at the age of eight is not an English word. Your success eloquent testimony of life for the virtues of hard work and perseverance and the immense promise of this great country. Elaine I welcome our firm as good.
